Fashionably Fierce

Image: google images

So, we all are familiar with the movie The Devil Wears Prada, believed to be based on the REAL British-American editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour. I am currently in the process of reading her biography, and the release of "The September Issue", a documentary about the September 2007 issue that weighed nearly five pounds, will give me an extra push to finish the book before August. View the trailer here.

Puppy Breath & Cherry Pits

Some of the sweetest things in life are free.

While I was home for the weekend, my parents and I got a surprise visit from my Aunt and Uncle's newest addition (I guess that makes her my cousin?) Six weeks old and mushy-faced, this little yellow lab stole my heart. After running around with my black lab/border collie, Mojo, "little yellow dog" (a name for her has yet to be decided) fell asleep underneath the patio table. Nothing like a little puppy breath.

And the cherries? Those just happen to come from the tree in my backyard and yes, I picked them myself. Cherry pie, anyone? I'll be bringing some of these back to school with me!

Internet makes the world go 'round...

It's been two days since the move back to Eugene, and four since my last blog entry. The house is great---awesome location, great roommates, own bathroom (probably one of my favorite details); however, my internet connection is extremely moody, leaving me with very few opportunities to check my e-mail, let alone add to my blog. All excuses aside, I stumbled upon some new "street styles" on Style Scrapbook (a blog by a fashion designer from Mexico) that I thought I'd share with you. Many of you know about my infatuation with black, grey and white clothing, so I guess there's no wonder why these styles caught my attention. Enjoy.

Goodwill

As you can probably already tell, I get extremely excited over good deals. It's like a game now--I'll see a great item in a magazine, then proceed to hunt down a similar, much less expensive version. Forever 21, Buffalo Exchange, Target...the list goes on. After finding so many amazing steals I vowed to never pay full price for anything ever again (we'll see how that works out). So, when a trip to Goodwill with old clothes turned into a harmless peek inside, I was able to find some surprisingly great items. (Just for the record, I'm not typically the girl you would see digging through bins of worn clothing, so I decided to gently search through the jewelery section instead.) A gold link bracelet and silver crown Juicy Couture ring (similar to the items pictured above) caught my attention and are now officially part of my personal collection. Did you know that in addition to Goodwill's everyday dirt-cheap prices, many items go on sale as well? I went home with both pieces of jewelery--real silver and gold--for $9.98. Insane. Maybe one of these days I'll dare to explore the racks of clothing.

Oh, what to wear?

What is it about a clean, organized closet that makes your life seem a little bit brighter? I feel as though I'm constantly on the move-- between the three living spaces in Delta Gamma this past year, home for holidays, and a new house for the summer, I've had my fair share of "fresh starts". And with each move, pushing me to be more organized than the last, I've discovered the simple joys in creating a happy home for my wardrobe.

The problem is, every closet is different--and this has become both a time consuming and expensive <obsession> to have when different boxes, baskets and containers are necessary with each new space. So, until I settle down in one place for more than six months, I guess I will just have to drool over the wonderfully creative (and functional) closets of others.

Road Trip

A trip to IKEA for a duvet was on my list of to-dos for quite some time before finally making the trip this afternoon. While it may be a simple errand for some, I found my mission to be slightly more complicated. After about 45 minutes, three wrong turns and a stop at a gas station for directions, we finally found our way torwards the big blue and yellow building. It wasn't my first time to IKEA, but it was overwhelming just the same. It may have the best prices, but it sure as hell isn't the easiest place to navigate. Turns out, the one pattern that I fell in love with was out-of-stock. Figures. So, for the amazing price of $19.99, I purchased the duvet you see up above--I guess I can't complain. Plus, I had a delicious buffalo chicken wrap with dessert and a drink for under $6. What-a-steal.

6 days until the move back to Eugene, and the descent into infoHELL!

Summer Cravings

...Cheap Summer cravings, I might add. School's out and swimsuits and sundresses are in.

I can't help but use every seasonal change as an excuse to update my wardrobe. This Summer, however, I'm needing to stretch every dollar to its fullest potential. Check out this outfit I put together at Forever21--literally 1/6 the price of any designer replica. Granted, you may lose a couple rhinestones and want to kill your feet in the morning, but with the savings you can treat yourself to a pedicure. :)

Current Obsession

I must admit, I'm a tad bit obsessed with smells. Perfume, candles, laundry detergent--you name it. The other day my friend introduced me to this fabulous oil diffuser and I immediately had to get one for myself. Besides the fact that it had me literally glued by its side for a good 20 minutes, it was on sale too! Hallelujah! The little 12.5 oz bottle of paradise that usually retails for $48 is now on sale at Anthropologie for $29.99. While there are about five different scents to choose from, Voluspa's Japonica Champaca Bloom and Fern is by far my favorite. I never want to leave my room!
